This final agenda item will be my most challenging. I will engage the Chief Justice, AOC Director, and AOC Budget Director, in dialogue about enhancing deputy clerk salaries. My approach will be similar to what I was able to accomplish with my software development team. In that managerial role, I was able to take a vacant position, and combine it with another position, to create a higher-salaried position.
Chief Justice John Minton has expressed to the Legislative body, on numerous occasions, his concerns about fair and equitable pay amongst the branches of government; but, those requests fell on deaf ears. As such, we must get creative with our resources.
When clerks transition out, depending on their duties, I will freeze that position, and seek permission to create a new Senior Deputy Clerk position. The idea is to merge the salaries from this frozen position, and that of a normal deputy clerk position. This increased salary would allow for the court to require a more in-depth knowledge, and skill set, for this deputy clerk position. With this approach, we can also re-introduce the career ladder for our dedicated long-term staff.
What are some ways that you have been creative, in trying to create competitive salaries in your agencies?
Let’s talk!
